Days later the mounting severity of the COVID-19 Pandemic brought public gatherings and "live entertainment" as we knew it to a screeching halt, leaving an industry in disarray. Our 2020 show attendance was off to a slow start with weather, schedule conflicts and partly out of fears of the worst. This put the pastime on an indefinite hold. In this period of uncertainty, as we lived through a slow-motion national emergency, the entertainers we so love were there for us. Many shared daily songs or concerts performed at home, broadcast over the Internet, largely for free, maybe with a virtual tip jar. They literally invited us into their homes, often their bedrooms or living rooms and made us part of a virtual shared experience. Their continued presence in our lives, with song and humanity, in these lonely times, away from the traditional shared experience will endure as a toehold in normalcy that will be with me for the rest of my days. Thank you all for doing what you do, especially when we so needed the arts in our lives more than ever.
It is with hope and optimism that I look forward to once more being in your live audience when we get past this.
